Barca transfer news: 3 Things & Players they should target

By Jim James

As we enter the back quarter of a transfer window that has seen many ups & downs for FC Barcelona, the sale of Lionel Messi, signings of Depay, Eric, Aguero, & more, the last waves of transfer news and signings are coming in. What should the Blaugrana do with this? This is the 3 things FC Barcelona should look for and 3 players who fit the memo.

Thing #1: Pace

The only players who are “Quick” on Barca are Dembele, Dest, Fati, and Alba, and sure, that will do against most of La Liga, but when it comes to the big teams: The Reals, the Atletis, and all the elite competition they will face in the UCL year after year, it will not do.  What they need are players who can get past 95% of those players on the big teams, that are also good enough to start or be on the bench.

Thing #2: The Alpha Dog

When I look at Barca, what I see are pieces looking for a leader on the attack. Sure, Pique & Busquets are defence and midfield leaders, but who is the leader on the attack? Fati is 18, Depay and Aguero just came here (and Aguero wants to leave), Griezmann lacks confidence as a player and competence as a leader, and Braithwaite is just finding his feet. What we need is someone who can and will take charge of this disgruntled group like Messi once did. I’m not saying that he has to be nearly as good as Messi, he just has to be the facilitator.

Thing #3: A good backup GK

Sorry Neto, you’re fine, but we saw your semi-collapse vs Sociedad. Last season we had Neto starting in goal at the beginning, so if this will be a common occurrence, we need a better backup than, as I call him, Back-of-the-neto.

3 Players who meet some of this criteria

#1: Inaki Williams: 27 y.o., ST, Athletic Bilbao

Personally, I’m tired of seeing & fearing him every time we play Bilbao, as he’s just a menace on attack for the basque, and I’d love to see him on the Blaugrana. Paired with Dembouz & Fati, they would be unstoppable.

#2: Jamie Vardy: 34 y.o., ST, Leicester

A player has to be good to be 34 and me wanting him, but that is what Jamie Vardy is. He would be our leader, our alpha dog which I mentioned before, and to me it seems time for him to finally make his name at a big European club.

#3: Unai Simon: 24 y.o., GK, Bilbao

If he’s good enough to keep David De Gea out of the team and lead Spain to the Euro semifinals, he’s good enough to be MATS’ heir and second choice. I was genuinely surprised by his goalkeeping efforts for the Spanish, especially in shootouts. The only problem I see arising is Bilbao’s price tag, they’ll be desperate to hold on to him after his sensational performances.

That is my list, while unlikely, I hope that if anyone connected to Barca reads this, they send it to some of the big men in the board, as this would superbly help the side. I’m Jim James, and I’ll see you soon!
