The Beautiful Game, Americanized – A What If/Timeline scenario

The Beautiful Game, Americanized – A What If/Timeline scenario

By Jim James

Soccer, or known outside of Canada and the USA (maybe Ireland) as football, is the world’s most popular sport. Part of the reason that it is so popular is that it is spread across the entire world. Let’s ruin that today. Football – Americanized. The scenario starts today.

October 15 2021 – The European Super Football League (ESFL) is founded

A new league is founded by Liverpool owner John Henry and PSG Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi. The league aims to bring the best teams & players in the world into one league, and replicate leagues such as the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL.

November 7 2021 – ESFL gets backing

Promising a revenue of leagues such as the Big 4 Sports Leagues, the ESFL gets backing from multi-billion dollar organizations such as ESPN, Adidas, and others.

November 12 2021 – ESFL starts pitch to Europe’s biggest teams

Following multi-billion dollar influxes, the ESFL starts its pitch to Europe’s big teams and their owners. Naturally, Liverpool and PSG go in the League, with John Henry and Nasser Al-Khelaifi. They pitch to the 14 other highest ranked teams in Europe – Bayern, Man City, Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, Atletico, Man U, Dortmund, Arsenal, Inter,  Sevilla, Porto, and Spurs.

December 2 2021 – Club Teams accept

By Early December, all of the club teams pitched to have accepted. The 1-and-a-half month old operation is still under tight locks.

December 10 2021 – Format Determined

After long debates, the Format for the European Super League is determined; Two Conferences – Northern Europe and Southern Europe, and Nation-based divisions, and you play each team in the other conference twice (16 games), teams in your conference but not in your division 3 times (12 games), and teams in your division 4 times (16 games) for a total of 44 games in the regular season, the top 4 teams in each conference qualify for the playoffs, where it is seeded, and there are 2 legged ties, then we get to the one game finals. For the 8 teams that don’t make the playoffs, they go into the draft lottery with equal odds. That also means that there is a draft, with the best players not in the league potentially choosing to declare for the draft. There are 3 rounds. After the draft will be Free Agency, with all the players whose contracts are expiring being able to be picked up on the cheap, however, teams whose players are going into free agency can insert an up to 50m offer sheet to get the player.

December 13 2021: Branding and Sponsorships for seasons 1-3 put together

It is getting closer than ever. The branding, sponsorships and TV Deals have been put together for the teams. Also, Every club is now ultra rich with a bonus for becoming part of the ESFL.

January 10 2022: ESFL announced to public

2022 starts with a blockbuster, the ESFL is announced as a new breakaway league replacing leagues and european leagues, shocking the world. Since this is my scenario, the fans don’t riot, but FIFA and UEFA backlash, and are shushed with billions and billions of euros.
