Carmelo Anthony – Legend or Myth

 

For years now, Jim and I have – from time to time – discussed the career of Carmelo Anthony. A stand out University player at Syracuse, a guaranteed superstar when he would turn pro, only the generational talent of LeBron James, and the bust of Darko Milicic  stood between him and the 1st overall pick in the Draft on that June day in 2003.

But in the 15 years since, he never fulfilled that promise, never became the difference maker, never…well, just never.

Jim and I have often asked ourselves what happened to Carmelo. Why didn’t he live up to the incredible expectations he came into the league with. But we’ve never really gotten to the heart of it. Until now.

Earlier today, I read this article by ESPN’s Kirk Goldsberry and believe he has finally nailed the mystery of why Carmelo never thrived in the NBA. If you’re like Jim and I, you’ll find it a fine read:
