Alexander Isak signs for Newcastle
The first huge signing of Newcastle’s new era happened today as the club have announced the signing of Alex Isak from Real Sociedad for 70 million Euros.
The Swede scored against Barcelona for Sociedad last week in a 4-1 Loss, that being his last goal for the club. There is concern about his goalscoring ability after only 6 league goals last season, a low at the club and his worst season in terms of goalscoring since 2017-18. The Toon will hope he can replicate his 20-21 form of 17 league goals.
Isak made his senior debut in 2016 for AIK in his homeland and scored 10 in 24 appearances at just 17 years old in his maiden campaign for the club. His good form was detected by Liverpool and Real Madrid, but it was Dortmund who won the race, picking him up in January of 2017.
His form never really took off there, playing mostly in Regionalliga for the B Side. His career was breathed back to life 2 years after signing for Dortmund, joining Willem II on a 6-month loan. His form EXPLODED in Holland, Scoring 13 and Assisting 7 in 16 games. This caught the attention of Real Sociedad, who picked him up that summer.
He scored 16 in all comps in his first of 3 seasons there, then 17 the next season. Sociedad shooed away interest in the Summer of 2021 before having a disappointing 21-22 campaign, netting only 10. Newcastle have elected to take the risk and make him their record signing. Only time will tell if it works out.
