Bob v Jim Mock Draft 2021: Jim
By Jim James
Today, in discussion, Bob suggested a brilliant idea (not as great as my ideas of course but that goes without saying). His idea was a contest. We both make separate blog posts listing our top 10 for the NBA draft in 1 week. We go on a points system: we get the pick right, we get 1 point, we get it wrong, we lose 1 point. So here we are, my official top 10 in the Bob v Jim mock draft 2021.
1: (Detroit): Cade Cunningham
I make this selection for the reason that it is obvious. 1/50 odds, and really, you can’t get much more obvious than this. We know, let’s move on. I haven’t got all day here.
2: (Houston): Jalen Green
The best scorer in this draft BY FAR, Jalen Green seems like the most NBA ready prospect in this draft, and I’d be very surprised if he goes too much lower than here. Pairing up with Johnathan Kuminga on the G-League Ignite squad, they both had moments of greatness, and he is a piece that you can definitely build a team around, which is something Houston need right now.
3: (Cleveland): Jalen Suggs
There’s always a Mr. Clutch in every draft, they usually go high, and Jalen Suggs is this draft’s Mr. Clutch. All you have to do is watch his game winner vs UCLA to know; this kid’s got talent. Great pick by Cleveland here.
4: (Toronto): Evan Mobley
The player of this top 4 we predict to be the bust, OF COURSE he goes to the Raptors. In all seriousness, Evan Mobley looks like a nice player coming out of college, but he’s very skinny, something other center’s won’t take lightly. However, if he can work on his game, who knows, maybe he’ll be good.
5: (Orlando): Jonathan Kuminga
This is another trio of picks that could be arranged in any order, but the players in it are pretty unanimous. Jonathan Kuminga is a player who seriously catches my eye, and I really like his game. He could be the best player outside the top 4.
6: (OKC): Davion Mitchell
Still can’t decide if it’s pronounced Dave-ee-on, or Dav-eye-on, but enough with me, this kid’s draft stock has to have jumped after being Mr. best player on the Championship winning team. OKC should pick him if he falls to 6.
7: (Golden State): Scottie Barnes
He is a solid player who I think could be the next Durant and translate his game to the NBA, but because of Florida State’s early exit in MM, his stock will lower, and maybe he will be a steal for the Warriors at 7.
8: (Orlando): Moses Moody
If Orlando could get him & Kuminga, they’re set. No. like really set. I am a fan of Moses Moody, despite the boom-or-bust feeling I get about him, and he could be pretty good in this league.
9: (Sacramento): James Bouknight
Another boom-or-bust player, if Sacramento draft him he might lean more towards bust, but anyway, he could go anywhere from 6 to 16, so picking him for this list might be risky, but I’m doing it.
10: (New Orleans): Franz Wagner
A nice big man, I don’t possibly know why I get Mo Wagner vibes about him. But maybe he could be a good center for the future paired with Jaxson Hayes.
Thank you for reading this list, tomorrow Bob & I release a joint discussion post, and the Friday after that (July 30) we react and score ourselves. See you then!
