FC Barcelona 22-23 Season Prediction
By Jim James
FC Barcelona are SET for the 2022-23 season after the signing of Jules Kounde, with a few deals still left to make, but this is the core of the team that will see the 22-23 season. With that in mind I’ve decided to make my predictions for Barcelona’s upcoming campaign. Let’s go.
La Liga
We are in with a shot of winning this. With Atlético Madrid losing Luis Suarez and not, as of yet, signing a replacement, they shouldn’t be too much of a threat, and we’ve won the last 2 El Clasicos. Despite last season being a horrible season, if we turned 3 losses and 3 draws into wins we would have won the league. With our vast improvement this summer, we certainly have the capacity to get 6 more wins than last season. In fact, if we only got 27 wins, it would be disappointing in my opinion, as we have not yet even gone behind in Pre-Season with 1 game left of it. I’m not saying we’re favourites, but we’re certainly about level with Real Madrid.
Last season Real Madrid had 2 “bad losses” in the league, being losses to bad teams that you really shouldn’t lose to, being a 2-1 loss to Espanyol and a 1-0 loss to Getafe. Barcelona had 5. We should be reducing that number to 1 or 2 with the new additions.
In fairness, Real Madrid has also improved, and seeing as they got 86 points last season, I expect this season to go down to the wire with both teams exceeding the 90-point mark. The individual wars and overall history of these 2 teams will define this matchup as a season-defining one when it’s all said and done.
In Summary, we should be in the top 2, within 5 points of Real Madrid at the very least, but we have a good chance of taking the whole prize.
Top 2 Chance: 75%
Winning Chance: 40%
Copa del Rey
Same story here. Personally, I would love to see an El Clasico final but it is unlikely. It all really depends on the luck of the draw in this competition, where in La Liga, you are all playing pretty much the same teams, in the Copa del Rey you are playing many different teams. We have to win 5 games to win the Copa, starting in the Third Round, going to the Round of 16 and so on.
Considering we’ll likely be playing some lower division and bottom half La Liga teams along the way, we should make the Semi-Finals at least, and again, have a fair shot of winning it.
Semi-Final Chance: 75%
Final Chance: 55%
Win Chance: 33%
Champions League
The Wild Card of the bunch here, isn’t it? The draw is still a long time away (August 26), so we don’t know the groups yet. Even if we did by now, it isn’t like the World Cup with pre-set matchups in the knockouts (2nd in Group A plays 1st in Group B, etc), so the path is uncertain. We should get out of our group with little fuss, even if we do draw Man City and Dortmund, we have a very good chance of making it out of the group. The Knockout stages are a total unknown, as we could draw anyone still in it, from Sheriff to PSG, but we can go very far, and if the draw is generous, we could even win it. It is against the odds, but it’s very possible.
RO16 Chance: 85%
Qtr Chance: 50%
Semi-Final Chance: 30%
Final Chance: 15%
Win Chance: 10%
That is all for my Season Prediction for FC Barcelona, I may do a Preview in a few days time, but until then, I’m Jim James, until next time.
