The Brooklyn Nets – A tale of hope, mistakes, failure, and rebuilding: Part 4
When we last left off, the 2018-19 season had just finished, and the Brooklyn Nets were on the up. Let’s see the last 2 seasons
The Big 1, then 2, then 3 (2019-2021)
The Brooklyn Nets were finally being taken seriously by the 2019 offseason, and after the first few MINUTES of July of the same year, they were being taken more seriously. It was announced that Kyrie Irving & Kevin Durant were teaming up in Brooklyn and forming a big 2, but it was also announced that Kevin Durant was out for the whole 2019-20 season, so that was too bad. However, Kyrie was in no sense of the word “alone”, as they had an amazing background cast of Spencer Dinwiddie, Caris Levert, Jarrett Allen, Joe Harris, and even Taurean Prince was averaging 13 a game. This looked like a team far removed from the struggles of the Mid-2010s. Even with the miracle work being pulled off there, bad luck struck again, when Kyrie got a season ending injury. The Nets got 1 35-37 record, and got swept in the 1st round by the defending champions (that’s the Raptors. Woohoo)
Kevin Durant himself was a question mark. That was certain. Steve Nash was also a question mark. Was he qualified? We didn’t know. Yes and yes. Those were the answers. A late December start shook things up. If there wasn’t any other things to be concerned about, the Nets remortgaged their future – again, and their background crew for James Harden. The result? A core of 3 egotistical stars that could work 2 – and only 2 ways. You probably know at this point. In this – the 2021 playoffs, they FINALLY got revenge on the Boston Celtics, getting past them 4-1 in the first round, which was the last straw for Danny Ainge, who finessed the Nets all those years back. Then they went 2-0 up on the Bucks, and then they got injury-ed. A 4-2 second round disappointing loss.
The future holds mystery for this Nets team. Will – or can this Big 3 stay healthy? Will they have a bad injury that derails their career? Can the Nets stay competitive until they have their 1st rounder again? Can these 3 win together? Who knows. All I know is, it looks very promising and I wouldn’t be surprised if they won a ring or 2. Thank you for reading this, and a special thank you if you read all 4 parts – in chronological order. Thank you.
