The Most improved player potentials from the start of FIFA 21 to 22

The Overall Ratings always cause a stir through the FIFA community when they release, but less so do potentials, as they are only suggestions on what the player is supposed to become in the Career Mode portion of FIFA, and is subject to change not just throughout the course of the year but in the individual saves due to dynamic potentials, a concept entering its third year of implementation into Career Mode. However, what these potentials are is more than what I just said, they are what scouts all over the year, and hundreds of people who see these players play think they can become.

Now, you are probably familiar with the term “Wonderkid”. They are players who are young but with buckets of potential, and it shows in Career Mode. You can see these wonderkids grow to their full potential and dominate world football. Some of these talents emerge from nowhere, and FIFA implements a new evaluation on what they can be now. However, of course, just like wonderkids fail, players can surpass potential once given to them in FIFA, like most of the world’s best have. In fact, A lot of the world’s best weren’t given high potentials until 23-25.

Some of those players might be on this list, so let’s get started on the 5 players who have been given the biggest potential upgrades since the start of last year’s game. Let’s begin!

Note: These players must now have a current potential of 84+, and in a tie, the player with the higher current potential wins. In an overall/potential comparison, the first number is the overall and the second one is the potential.

  1. Christian Romero: 73/80 to 82/87

One of the most prolific players in this list, Christian Romero has really made a name for himself over the last 12 months, from being thrown out at Juventus to being Tottenham’s star center back, Juve will be kicking themselves for letting this gem go, especially in their current state, where he would be their defensive rock. EA think so too, seeing him get a FIFA 22 rating which surpasses his start of FIFA 21 potential, while getting a potential of becoming as good a CB as Marquinhos.

  1. Nicolo Rovella: 58/77 to 70/87

A staggering +12 rating increase, you probably wouldn’t think that a 58 rated would get 20 games in Serie A last season, and neither did EA. Rovella had a breakout season last season, and got snapped up by Juventus, but is back to Genoa on loan this season, Kulusevski style. He was rewarded with a huge upgrade, and hopefully can maintain to work toward that potential this season.

  1. Fede Chiesa: 78/84 to 83/91

Sure, he did well at Fiorentina, but this upgrade is well deserved. Juventus, I believe saved his career and he has had a great redemption season and got up to 91 potential.  He had 87 potential, but went down to 84 potential before his move to Juventus, and we thought that his career was going down the drain, but he’s pulled the miracle out of the bag.  Let’s hope this continues.

  1. Giacomo Raspadori: 64/79 to 74/88

A 9-Goal season has earned Giacomo Raspadori respect from EA, putting him on course to become as good a striker as Romelu Lukakuin the future, and I wouldn’t be surprised if h does become that good, as at just 21 he is leading the line for Sassuolo and looks set to become Italy’s future leading striker and heir to the ageing Ciro Immobile.

  1. Eric Martel: 57/72 to 66/84

Making his name in Austria, RB Leipzig will be licking their lips with this talent. 20 games in the Austrian first division for the German midfielder has earned him an astounding +12 potential! In his second season on loan for Austria Wien, I would watch out for him in the future.

Those were the top 5 players whose potential skyrocketed over the last year, from breakout stars to redemption seasons to hidden gems, I hope you enjoyed my list, and this is Jim James signing off.
