What we know so far about EA Sports FC

EA Sports FC was revealed officially by EA today, and the new era in football gaming is well and truly underway. From PES and FIFA being the two main rivals in the start of 2021 to eFootball, EA Sports FC, and UFL, which is planned to be released in the latter half of the year. That’s a big change for less than 3 years.

Again, we’ll be covering EA Sports FC today, a game that EA gave details on for the first time today since the announcement that it will proceed FIFA 23. Although the announcement was little more than a logo reveal, more news has been revealed. Let me take you through it.

Let’s start with Career Mode, and in a year of massive change for the game, the addition of Online Career Mode will be the biggest. How it will be formatted, e.g. if it will be with your friends or one massive league, when the game times are structured, that is not decided yet, as the mode is still being tested in the Pre-Alpha stage, as per the last update in late March.

We don’t know much about the rest of Career Mode, except that there’s supposed to be a Women’s Mode to come. With the addition of Online Career Mode, I wouldn’t expect an overhaul in the rest of Career Mode, however.

EA Sports FC is also set to feature some wholesale changes to Ultimate Team. The first being changes to the Transfer Market. It seems unlikely the EA will continue with the current market format, due to the growing popularity of coin sellers. They have recently experimented with two options: No market at all, or a market with the same premise as the FIFA Mobile one – you put in a “purchase order” for a player, and it’s finalized once another player puts the player you want up for sale, and vice versa.

There’s also a new feature that’s set to come, where the more of a pack you open, the higher chance you get a good player. I’m not sure what I’m making of this one. It seems to promote gambling, but we’ll see how it works in-game before making a final verdict.

There are also set to be Women’s players coming in Ultimate team, who you can play alongside the men’s players. For example, you can play Sam Kerr and Kylian Mbappé in the same team, or Alexia Putellas and Robert Lewandowski.

Finally, there could be over 25 new Icons and heroes in EA Sports FC. Dimitar Berbatov is confirmed to come as a hero, with Stefan Effenberg, Andreas Brehme, Vitor Baia, David Seaman, Frank de Boer, and Robbie Fowler all as Icons in FIFA Mobile, so that would be 7 of them already. An eighth could be Alfredo di Stefano, who was added in the code to come for FIFA 23 but never did. Recently retired players to be added could be Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Gerard Piqué, Sergio Aguero, or Gareth Bale.

There are also set to be some shiny new licenses coming to the game. Fabrizio Romano teased his addition to the game today, potentially foreshadowing a Social Media aspect in Career Mode similar to the one seen in the journey, and it seems Barcelona won’t renew their contract with Konami and will seemingly switch to being added in EA Sports FC’s inaugural title.

Finally, the release date for EA Sports FC’s reveal trailer is set to be in late June, still 2.5 months away, but the game may be released earlier than usual. Potentially early September, or even earlier.

Well, that concludes what we know about EA Sports FC. Hopefully we get more news on the game in the comings days, weeks, and months. I can’t wait to play it, but until then, we still have plenty in the Football world to tide us over. I’m Jim James, until next time!
