Biggest NBA moments every year of the 2010s

Biggest NBA moments of every year of the 2010s

By Jim James

Big NBA moments only come around so often, and with the turn of the decade coming around, I decided that now would be perfect to talk about the biggest moments in the NBA this decade starting with 2010 and going to 2019.

2010: The decision (Lebron and co moving to the Heat)

The 2010s decade started off with a Free Agency bang. The first superteam of the decade was formed. Lebron and Bosh going to the Heat, and D-Wade re-signing. The Heat went on to make the next 4 finals, winning 2 of them. Maybe if they won all 4 they would be considered top 5 superteam all time?

2011: Derrick Rose winning youngest MVP ever

In 2011, D-Rose won the MVP in his 3rd NBA season at 22 years and 6 months old, only 1 year before tearing his ACL in the 2012 playoffs. In the 2010-11 season, Rose got his first career triple doubles and averaged 25 ppg, 7.7 apg, and 4.1 boards, career highs in points and rebounds and 2nd most in assists. It was a promising young career

2012: Derrick Rose tears ACL

Until the 2012 playoffs. This was the sad, unfortunate, but preventable end of the player that the previous season as well as MVP got the 3rd player in NBA history to score 20,000 points and 600 assists in a single season with MJ and LBJ. In the 2012 playoffs vs the 76ers, the Bulls were leading 87-99 with 1:10 to go in the 4th and Derrick Rose came down awkwardly on the left knee and was never the same player and never will be.

2013: Ray Allen’s shot

This was the clutchest shot arguably in NBA history. It was Game 6 of the NBA finals and it was 3-2 for the Spurs. It was 95-92 for the Spurs with 19.4 seconds left and Kawhi had just made 1 of 2 free throws. Miami goes up the floor, Lebron misses a three, Chris Bosh rebounds, passes to Ray Allen, with 7 seconds to go puts it up, swish. Tie game. It goes to OT, Heat win, they win the next game too, and their second NBA finals.

2014: Lebron Returns

This is the FA after the Spurs win the championship. Kyrie is in his 3rd year and looking great, the Cavs trade the #1 pick in Andrew Wiggins for Kevin Love, and then Lebron Returns in UFA. Then the Cavs and Warriors start the 4 year rivalry.

2015: The Start of the Steph Curry 3 pt revolution

The 2014-15 season was the start of when the 3 point revolution that we still see in the modern game was created. It was all started by the then before the time injury prone player that can only jump shoot Steph Curry. Its gotten wider and bigger and wider and bigger over the past few years to the point where now even those being compared to Shaq are developing their long range jumper. It’s revolutionary.

2016: The Cavs win the championship after being 3-1 down vs the greatest regular season team in NBA history

This was the great escape. After being 3-1 down, the Lebron James led Cleveland Cavaliers stopped the best full season in NBA history from happening, thanks to the help from not only Lebron, but also Draymond Green, who got ejected in Game 5 and was suspended for game 6. Also thanks to Kyrie, who sank the clutchest shot since Ray Allen 3 years before.

2017: Kyrie trade to Celts

In the 2017 offseason, Kyrie wanted out. They were just beaten 4-1 by the Warriors who now had Kevin Durant. He was sick and tired of being in Lebron’s shadow, and wanted his own team. Kyrie was traded to the Boston Celtics for IT, Jae Crowder, a couple other guys, and the Brooklyn unprotected 2018 first round pick (Collin Sexton) from a trade about 5 or so years earlier. The Cavs did go on to make the finals that year, so Kyrie couldn’t have been that much of a loss, the Celtics went on to make the conference finals, too, just like last year. Butthis was like a lose-lose trade. IT never came back to his former self, Kyrie was locker room cancer, and the Celtics never made it past the conference finals.

2018: Lebron signs for LA

After the Cavs got swept in the finals, Lebron signed for Los Angeles with only the intention to get ahead on his post career legacy. He was frustrated, and another “Decision” TV Show was made, although it didn’t get as much popularity as the first. Then Lebron went on to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2004-05. Although then he did go on to recruit AD.

2019: Canada gets its first Larry O’Brien.

This was one of the happiest moments in Bob and I’s time. 24 years in the making, with Damon Stoudamire, Vince Carter, T-Mac, Chris Bosh, DeMar DeRozan, It lead to this. Back in 2018, Kawhi got traded to Toronto for DeMar DeRozan and Jakob Poeltl and our 2019 unprotected 1st round pick. We go on to the 2 seed, but then get beaten by DJ Augustin? But then we win vs the Magic, “The shot” saves us in 7 vs the 76ers, Then come back from 2 games down vs the Bucks, and then the 6ix in six winning the championship.
